CTC Marine has chosen Houghton Offshore to be their preferred fluid suppliers

Houghton’s Environmentally Safe Vegetable oil replaces Mineral oil.

Houghton UK have in the past supplied ROV’s and marine trenching equipment with a mineral oil based product Hydro-Drive HPE 32, which has the unique ability to take in ingressions of sea water with out causing corrosion or electrical conductivity. Environmental demands have now changed towards the use of mineral oil in subsea equipment and CTC Marine, in order to obtain global contracts replaced mineral oil in their fleet of subsea vehicles. Houghton UK has now developed a vegetable based alternative to The Hydro-Drive HPE series oils under the development name LH5-4B.  LH5-4B is emulsifiable hydraulic oil, meeting DIN 51502- HLP-D Classification formulated with high quality vegetable oils and the latest ash-less, zinc-free additives. The product is based on biodegradable esters to give enhanced performance and environmental benefits compared to mineral oils. LH5-4B is fully emulsifiable into water and meets WGK 1 classification.

CTC Marine operates the world’s most sophisticated fleet of pipeline ploughs capable of operation in a wide variety of soil conditions, through to cable and umbilical ploughs. CTC Marine also operates a wide range of mechanical trenchers. RT1 is the largest and the most powerful subsea mechanical trencher in the world, and will soon be diverted to Australia for extended contracts.

CTC Marine are now in the process of converting all of their fleet over to LH5-4B hydraulic oil and have actually obtained contracts by converting equipment to operate with Houghton vegetable hydraulic oil
